What happens during cosmetic eyelid surgery?

An eyelid lift or blepharoplasty is a surgery that makes the eyelids look smoother and younger.  It also creates a beautiful frame to the eyes, arguably the most attractive parts of the face.

What exactly happens during a cosmetic eyelid surgery?  This depends on what needs to be done based on your anatomy and how you look, and this can be different from person to person.  Some people only require an upper eyelid lift because they have sagging skin or hollowing that needs to be filled in.  Others may wish to have a lower eyelid lift to eliminate under-eye bags.  And many people have the upper and lower eyelids done at the same time.

The procedure to make the eyelids look younger has evolved over recent years to include more fat preservation and less fat and skin removal.  The result of this evolution in cosmetic surgery principles is a natural-looking aesthetic with well-maintained eyelid function.

Why I do cosmetic eyelid surgery

Cosmetic eyelid surgery is something I do every week because:

  1. I’m an expert in cosmetic eyelid surgery
  2. I enjoy it
  3. It can make people look 5 – 10 years younger and less tired

This is what happens during eyelid surgery:

I see patients seeking an eyelid lift in NY on a daily basis and my approach varies based on their age, their goals, their tolerance for downtime, and the shape of their eyes at the time of the consultation and 10 years prior.  But many of the basic surgery steps are similar including fat sculpting of the upper and lower eyelids, fat repositioning or fat grafting to both upper and lower eyelids, muscle lifting when needed, and skin rejuvenation with conservative skin removal or laser skin resurfacing.

What to do if you’re considering cosmetic eyelid surgery in NY

My page on cosmetic eyelid surgery can be found here.  I’ve included video reviews from my own patients, videos in which I explain my philosophies on cosmetic eyelid lifts, and photographic examples of my own patients’ results.  You should consider interviewing several expert eyelid surgeons and find a doctor that has an aesthetic sense that seems to match yours.  When you’re in expert hands, blepharoplasty can be a very rewarding and rejuvenating experience.
